Former President Donald Trump is “safe following gunshots in his vicinity,” his campaign said Sunday afternoon—about two months after an assassination attempt on Trump.

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement the former president was safe, but provided no further details.
The shooting took place on the grounds of the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, but the intent behind it is unknown, Teri Barbera from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office told The New York Times.
Officers have a “person of interest” detained and will hold a news conference later Sunday, Barbera told the Times.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted a “protective incident” involving Trump took place shortly before 2 p.m., adding the agency and the sheriff’s office are investigating.
The White House said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the security incident and are “relieved” to know Trump is safe.
