Harvey Weinstein Back In Hospital, Reports Say

Topline

Harvey Weinstein—the high-powered Hollywood producer whose sexual misconduct convictions launched the #MeToo movement—has been readmitted to a New York City hospital after an “alarming blood test result,” his lawyer told multiple outlets Monday, one week after he sued the city for failing to provide adequate medical care, including for a leukemia diagnosis, while at Rikers Island.

Key Facts

Attorney Imran Ansar said Weinstein’s blood test result “requires immediate medical attention” and he is expected to stay at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital until his condition stabilizes.

Weinstein, 72, has been at Rikers Island since April with the exception of several hospital stays for various medical conditions—he spent 10 days at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan this spring, was hospitalized in July for COVID-19 and pneumonia and underwent surgery on his heart in September.

Weinstein’s attorneys last week accused Rikers, where is being held while he awaits a new trial on sexual assault charges, of substandard medical treatment and unhygienic conditions in a legal claim that said he has diabetes and has been diagnosed with leukemia.

The claim, which seeks $5 million in damages, says Weinstein has been subjected to “freezing” conditions, isn’t provided clean clothes and has been sent back to jail before adequately recovering from each of his hospital stays.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
