In a post on various social platforms, Obama said he and former first lady Michelle were “thinking of the entire Biden family” as he praised the former president, saying: “ Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she was hopeful for a full and speedy recovery for Biden, adding: “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”
“We stand with President Biden as he confronts this moment with the same courage and resilience he has shown throughout his life,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said in a statement, adding that the House Democratic Caucus was praying for the former president.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she was “thinking of the Bidens as they take on cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to spare other families from,” and wished the former president a speedy and full recovery.
A short while later, former President Bill Clinton called Biden a “fighter” in an X post and said: “Hillary and I are rooting for him and are keeping him, Jill, and the entire family in our thoughts.”
What Have Republican Leaders Said About Biden’s Diagnosis?
Reports of Biden’s diagnosis prompted several Republican leaders, including fierce critics of the former president, to express their support and wish for his recovery. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., tweeted: “This is certainly sad news, and the Johnson family will be joining the countless others who are praying for the former President in the wake of his diagnosis.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., wrote: “I’m sorry to see this news. Cancer is truly awful. My Dad passed away in 2021 with cancer. Prays for Joe Biden and his family.” Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., who worked as a urologist before joining Congress, posted a video on X, discussing Biden’s diagnosis and said advances in medical treatment have extended life expectancy for prostate cancer patients by several years. He added, “My heart and prayers go out to President Biden and his family. My hope is that he will have good treatment awaiting him and his cancer responds well to the diagnosis.”

Earlier on Sunday, a spokesperson for Biden’s office issued a statement saying last week the former president “was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.” On Friday, he was diagnosed with a “more aggressive form” of prostate cancer, “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.” The statement added that the cancer “appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”
