Key Facts
“Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” Trump said, referencing a post he made on Truth Social in September slamming the singer after she endorsed his opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The reason for Trump’s attack on Swift is unclear, as Swift has not mentioned him recently, and she has kept a low profile on social media and in public since her blockbuster Eras Tour wrapped up in December.
Minutes later, Trump made another post targeting the “Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen” after the musician blasted Trump as “treasonous” and “unfit” for office while on stage in London on Wednesday.
“Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy,” Trump said of Springsteen, criticizing him for supporting his former opponent, former President Joe Biden.
Trump threatened Springsteen—whom he called a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker”—to “KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country.”
Also in his post on Springsteen, Trump renewed his criticism of Biden, whom he has targeted in hundreds of Truth Social posts since retaking office, calling him “our WORST EVER President.”
What Did Bruce Springsteen Say About Trump At His U.k. Show?
Springsteen, a longtime Trump critic, said at the opening night of his U.K. tour this week the United States is “currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” Springsteen accused the Trump administration of alienating U.S. allies, rolling back civil rights and “abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death.” He also referenced Trump’s ongoing battle with Harvard University and his administration’s deportation of several international students: “They’re defunding American universities that won’t bow down to their ideological demands. They’re removing residents off American streets and, without due process of law, are deporting them to foreign detention centers and prisons,” Springsteen said. Following the show, the White House said in a statement that “the 77 million Americans that elected President Trump disagree with elitist and out-of-touch celebrities like Bruce Springsteen,” adding he is “welcome to stay overseas,” NBC News reported. Springsteen endorsed all three of Trump’s Democratic presidential opponents, and he has previously criticized Trump as a “threat to our democracy.”
How Have Taylor Swift And Trump Sparred?
Swift has spoken out against Trump’s presidency since his first term and endorsed both Biden in 2020 and Harris in 2024, which has provoked Trump to launch multiple attacks on the singer. In 2019, Swift accused Trump of treating the presidency like an “autocracy,” and a year later, she criticized his controversial declaration that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts,” as protests raged following the police killing of George Floyd. “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November,” Swift posted in May 2020. In August 2024, Trump reshared AI-generated images that falsely indicated Swift had endorsed his candidacy, stating: “I accept!” Swift later wrote on Instagram the AI images were one of the reasons she decided to vocally endorse Harris. After Swift endorsed Harris, Trump told “Fox & Friends”: “I’m not a Taylor Swift fan,” adding, “She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” Trump again criticized Swift in February after the Super Bowl, which she attended to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, where she was met with some boos when shown on a jumbotron. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump said on Truth Social.
Is Taylor Swift Really No Longer “hot?”
Swift has not posted on social media or released music since her Eras Tour wrapped up in December, though she had a highly successful 2024. The Eras Tour ended as the highest-grossing tour of all time, grossing more than $2 billion. It was also credited with boosting many local economies globally and in the United States. Swift also had the two best-performing albums of 2024, according to Billboard’s year-end chart, with her record-breaking “The Tortured Poets Department” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”
