X Makes AI Chatbot Grok Available For Free—What To Know About The Change

Topline

X, formerly known as Twitter, has launched a free and limited tier of its chatbot Grok, providing users with access to the AI tool after previously locking it behind a premium subscription.

Key Facts

X on Friday opened the chatbot to non-premium users, though there are limitations on queries and other features provided by Grok.

Free users can ask Grok up to 10 questions every two hours and are limited to three image analyses and four image generations per day, according to the chatbot.

It is unclear what regions and countries the free rollout may be limited to, but users have speculated the change has been made in North America, India and Oceania.

Users with X’s Premium and Premium+ subscriptions, which cost $7 and $14 a month, respectively, have increased access to Grok (up to 50 questions per day).

Those without an X account looking to use the chatbot must have an account that is at least seven days old and linked to a phone number.

X has not released an official statement on the rollout and did not immediately respond to Forbes’ request for comment.
